Cooking and Food

For various reasons like health and heavy work, I have refrained from having lunch in fast food shops or restaurants for many years. You say that deprives me of the joy of tasting good food of different cuisines, but it saves me the trouble of having to go out in the heat, especially during summer when the weather is scorching hot. Moreover, it saves me the trouble of having to look for seat vacancies in eateries during the short lunch-break.

Preparing lunch-boxes on working days can be tedious as I do not only have to plan the week’s menu ahead, but also buy the ingredients and get up very early to cook the dishes, before I pack them in my lunch-box. However, in the long run, I see it not as a challenge, but something that I should enjoy and benefit from. Cooking is a form of art, which requires explicit knowledge of the nutrients of different types of ingredients as well as the various methods of cooking which help to bring out their best tastes and restore their nutrients at the same time.

On weekdays, I will try to have simple and light meals like sandwiches or wraps, noodles, vegetables with rice and occasionally sweet and sour pork, which is one of my favourite Chinese dishes. Soup is also a must-have item as Chinese believe that it is good for the body.

At weekends and holidays, if time allows, I will try to make sushi, spaghetti or fried noodles at home. Of all the various types of cuisines, Japanese sushi used to be my favourite before This is because, unlike traditional Chinese food or dishes, there is less or very little meat, which makes the meal healthier. However, nowadays, I prefer cooked food to raw as it is usually safer, especially during summer, when raw food like sushi or sashimi can turn bad very easily within a short time when left in room temperature.

Cooking and sharing food together are good ways to show our love and concern to the ones we love, especially our parents, family members and close friends. If you don’t like cooking big meals, you can make some cakes or biscuits to show them your love and appreciation. Moreover, having time together for meals is also a good way to improve our communication with others by sharing our life and feelings with them. Food does not only fill our stomach, it also fills our days with the many love and concern from the people who love us. Next time, when your parents cook for you, think of the incessant and selfless love they have for you, though they do not put it verbally.

Do you like cooking? Have you ever cooked for your family or friends? Do you have any wonderful experience with food and your beloved ones. Share your experience of cooking and food with all your friends in your blog writing (3) with the title “Cooking, Food and Love”. The deadline for completing this blog entry is 29th July.

  1. I believe that most of people choose to eat fast food because it is more convenient and the food can be prepared with amazing speed. Thus, people do not attach great importance to health food.

After looking at your post, I think Ms. Nee is a good housewife because you will try to make a lot of food.

  2. I concur that cooking with our parents is a good way to show love and concern with each other. Every night, when I had my dinner with my family, I can feel their love from the food as they cook with heart.

Hope that we can have a chance to try your food.

    1. In this case, you can start by learning to bake as you need to use an oven only, not a stove through which you have to deal with fire.
